Postcards from PEI – Day 8

Technically this postcard is coming from Mississauga, Ontario but the day began in Stanley Bridge, PEI.  The trip is complete and our group are all back home safely.  I have to commend Golf PEI and PEI’s Finest Golf.  These two offices are important in supporting golf tourism on the Island.  My reflections of golf on the Island – and I will spend more time on this in subsequent posts – are of diversity, quality and enjoyment.  The enjoyment comes from the land and its people.  PEI is blessed with great golf with a nice mix of value and quality.

To my friends who made the time to make this so memorable, thanks.  Our friendship and golf compatibility made for a great week.  We spent time sharing our favourite courses this morning.  Safe to say that golf course listings are subjective.

Highlights?  No aces.  I did hit a pin on the approach on the 179th hole on the trip.  Andrew was able to hit a drive over 350 yards at Crowbush.  Greg hardly missed a fairway all trip, seriously, the man is automatic off the tee.  Joel played some superb golf after a challenging summer and continues to demonstrate a sensational short game.  Me?  I worked on my new claw putting grip and while I didn’t score well, I was awe struck daily about the natural beauty of golf on the Island.  My spirit has been refreshed and renewed.

The success of a golf trip starts with the people; it is the foundation.  After that, it is like real estate…location, location, location.  I feel fortunate.  On both accounts the trip was amazing.  Here are a few final pictures.  It will be a busy fall and winter season with course reviews, gear reviews, and reflection pieces.  I will not apologize though.  With a bias to golf in eastern Canada, Prince Edward Island is a location I admire and enjoy.

The view from the back of our rental home. We stayed at The Gables in Stanley Bridge. It's central location was helpful. The hot tub was quickly seen as essential after days of 36 holes a day.

Wheels up after a great week in Prince Edward Island. I look forward to my return trip.
